Overview
NHSScotland has developed SCI Gateway, a national system that integrates primary and secondary care systems using familiar yet highly secure Internet technology. SCI Gateway is fully integrated with the GPASS primary care system, enabling GPs to access SCI services on-line and can also be integrated with commercial systems.

Secure communication of clinical data:
• Communications using familiar Internet technologies including for example: HTTP, Secure
• Sockets Layer (SSL) for encryption
• Electronic documents that comply with SIGN standards and national XML information definitions
Protocol-based Referrals
• Referral of clinical and demographic information
• Clinical guidance, key messages and links to relevant on-line resources
• Data pre-populated from GPASS, minimal manual data entry required
• Multi-user "workflow" functionality to support primary care working practices
Integration - GPASS
• SCI applications available from within the GPASS system (from the SCI tab)
• Auto-insertion of patient clinical and demographic data from GPASS within referrals
• Import facilities to update patient records with information from immediate discharge letters
Integration - SCI Outpatients
• Outpatient booking facility from GP surgery
• Immediate confirmation of appointment booking
• Provide the patient with a printed appointment letter before leaving the surgery. Alternatively the appointment letter could be posted at a later date
• Appointment before referral - an appointment may be booked before full clinical data is transmitted
• Facility to send discharge information to the GP including essential clinical information, drug data and treatment advice

System Requirements
Detailed system requirements will be defined at the pre -installation phase and will be a joint exercise between the Trust IM&T representative and the SCI Account Manager. As a high level guide:

• Internet Explorer v5.0 or higher

• 64Mb RAM
• Connectivity to SCI Gateway over NHSnet
• GPASS versions R-4S, R-4T or R5 (where applicable)
